We traveled to the Hamburg International Convention all the way from the coastal towns of New Jersey in the United States, bringing along some classic, original Atlantic City saltwater taffy to share a sweet taste of our home. Our group of six—Bill and Allyson Cunningham, Christin McKay, Emily Arnold, and Doug and Heather Petersen—are so joyful to be sharing this wonderful international gathering with you.

We all live in a variety of places along the beautiful Jersey Shore, a coastline rich with unique wildlife and natural treasures. Just a short distance from where some of us live is a protected and preserved shoreline famous for being a sanctuary for ancient horseshoe crabs. A couple of miles down the road lies the stunning Sandy Hook peninsula, an absolute haven for nature lovers. Because it sits right along a major migration route, you can find an amazing variety of beautiful birds resting and nesting in its protected dunes and maritime forests throughout the year.

This corner of New Jersey holds a deep and fascinating history. Sandy Hook has long been a vital maritime landmark; its famous lighthouse, built in 1764, is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in the United States and has safely guided ships into New York Harbor for centuries. The neighboring coastal towns all share in this rich nautical heritage. Atlantic Highlands boasts the highest point on the eastern seaboard south of Maine, offering sweeping views of the ocean, while Highlands and Sea Bright have deep roots as historic fishing villages that have weathered the tides of time. Just inland, the beautiful borough of Rumson sits peacefully between the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers, originally serving as a scenic summer retreat.
